Plint Welcomes Mark Howorth as Senior Advisor
Plint is thrilled to bring Mark Howorth on board as Senior Advisor, where he will help guide the introduction of our next-generation localisation technology.
Plint’s technology enables cost-effective, automated localisation that most closely resembles human language. Traditional technologies like Neural Machine Translation, and Large Language Models still result in output that requires manual intervention to mimic phrasing that sounds natural. Plint has invested significant engineering over the last two years to reduce the need for human post-editing and QC. Per Nauclér, Plint’s founder comments:
“Our new approach to subtitling is a paradigm shift and we want it to be communicated it as widely as possible. Having someone with Mark’s broad experience will help us make a bigger splash in the industry.”
Mark will work alongside Per and current Plint head of sales, Carlo DeCanti, to introduce the new technology to the marketplace.
Howorth brings 25+ years of media experience, the last nine of which have been in localisation. He has served as the CEO of SDI Media, President of Iyuno, and CEO of VSI in recent years. His focus will be on helping Plint bring its new suite of technology to the marketplace
“It is really exciting to see what Plint has accomplished,” comments Mark. He continues: “Most localisation companies are simply adding new technology to the existing workflows, but Plint has taken an entirely new approach. Per’s team has started with a blank slate based on what new technology can make possible. This created both high quality and low cost since workflow steps are removed from process because they are no longer necessary.”
The initial productisation is traditional subtitles for all major languages but will quickly grow to cover multiple outputs including SDH, Forced Narratives, AD, Conforms, QC, annotated dialog lists, KNP and even dub scripts. Plint’s technology will allow high quality subtitles to be created for less than $5.00 per run time minute.
Mark will be based in Los Angeles and will continue to work with other companies in addition to Plint.
